Parish Calendar Meeting

Monday, June 9, 7:00 p.m. in the Rectory. We ask that one representative from every parish organization be present to submit their special dates for 2003 and 2004. Understandably all spiritual and church related events take precedence in our calendar preparation.   -JL

To Thank You

My heart and my brother's heart are filled with thanksgiving for the outpouring of love all of you showed on our fortieth and twentieth anniversaries.

May the Lord bless and reward each one of you for your thoughtfulness and kindness.

You are wonderful! Father Eugene Bucciferro

A Thought From Your Deacon:

What does one do with a holy card they pick up at a wake? When I was young, it was used as a bookmark for one's prayerbook. When one looked at it, it became a reminder to pray for the deceased. Nowadays, we no longer have personal prayerbooks. Clergy, however, have their breviaries, so, I continue to use the holy cards as bookmarks to remember at least once a year to pray for the soul or intercession of that person on their special day. To help you continue this practice, I have begun a weekly column In Memoriam, listing St. Patrick parishioners who have passed away in the last 25 years during the upcoming week. Hope this helps you to recall a family member, relative or friend.

Yours to serve, Deacon Paul

Primary Reasons for Failure

A noted psychologist was asked to give his observations as to the primary reasons people fail in life. The nine reasons he listed are most interesting.

  1. Finding fault with the other fellow but never seeing your own fault.
  2. Doing as little as possible and trying to get as much as possible for it.
  3. Spending much time showing up the other fellow's weak points, and too little correcting your own.
  4. Slandering those whom you do not like.
  5. Procrastination - putting off until tomorrow what we should have done day before yesterday.
  6. Deceit - talking friendly to the other fellow's face and stabbing him in the back as he turns.
  7. False belief that we are smart enough to reap a harvest of pay before sowing a crop of service.
  8. Egotism - the belief that we know it all and no man can tell us anything.
  9. God the ultimate psychologist wants what is best for you. Are you listening to Him?

God Bless,

Father Jim

Sacrificial Offering

Your weekend church offerings totaled $7,175.50 on May 25. This continued support of our parish is deeply appreciated and sincerely acknowledged.    -JL

With Deep Gratitude

I express my sincere appreciation to the St. Patrick Council of Catholic Women for their recent generous check of $4,000.00 to the parish. This money will be used for new outdoor carpeting in front of church; for assistance in remodeling the school kitchen and for a new matching pall (covering placed on the casket) and vestments to be used at funerals.

Thanks again and God Bless!

Father Jim

Diocese of Joliet

Diocesan Annual Appeal

Parish Goal $33,902.00
Target Balance $16,650.00

Literally thousands of lives are affected and changed by the Annual Appeal. The average contribution is $135.00 per family or individual. However, what is most important is not the amount you give, but that you give something, $2.00, $10.00, $20.00. If 29% of the parish contributes, no matter what amount is raised, we will not be billed for the remaining amount, which would come from parish funds.

On behalf of Bishop Imesh, thank you for your support of our larger church and the many people who depend on this Appeal.

God Bless and Reward You

Father Jim

Letter Received From Glenmary Home Missioners:

Dear Father Lennon and Parishioners of St. Patrick's.

We received your Adopt-a-Mission gift of $4,000.00 from the Propagation of the Faith Office. We will forward $2,000.00 to St. Francis of Assisi in Aberdeen, Mississippi and $2,000.00 to Prince of Peace, West Liberty, Kentucky. We feel truly blessed to have your faithful support.

Since May 11 was designated World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the priesthood or religious life, throughout the month of May we have been asking all our donors and friends to pray every day for young men and women to respond generously to God's call. We are also asking for prayers for those who have already committed themselves to serve in ministry.

Nationally, the Church is experiencing a real shortage of vocations. Glenmary is a microcosm of the Church in America. I stand in awe with the efforts of our men and of diocesan priests, many of whom are covering the gap in personnel by serving well into their senior years.

As you pray for vocations, pray also for guidance in these times. Something new is being called forth from us in ministry today. New problems must evoke new methods. New visions call for new boldness. New struggles demand new ways to look at ministry.

While recognizing the newness, our dream is still the same - to serve the home mission. Thank you for walking with us as we serve by establishing the Church in the neglected regions of America and by helping the people improve their temporal welfare.
