St. Patrick School Parent Link

From the Desk of Dr. Lonnie Hughes, Principal

To our St. Patrick parents:

H1N1 Update

It goes without saying parents are concerned about the impact of H1N1 and how their school is reacting. First of all, I've asked Kelly Kramerich to be our liaison to the Will County Health Department and to keep us up to date on developments concerning the flu. We have been asked to monitor trends regarding the number of students diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, and to report significant increases. As of this writing, there have been three confirmed H1N1 cases involving St. Patrick students. One of those students has returned to school.

No student with the flu should return to school unless he/she is free of fever without the use of medications for a period of at least 24 hours. Of course, the health department also encourages parents to immunize youngsters as soon as possible. Please check the department's website www.willcountyhealth.org/swineflu for updates as to the availability of vaccine and vaccination clinic schedules.

Here's what we're doing on our end of things:

Our normal procedure is daily sanitization of desks, doorknobs, key boards and other areas where youngsters may have frequent contact. Elementary children are given hand sanitizer when leaving the playground prior to lunch. Junior High students will be provided with sanitized hand wipes shortly. Children are taught the proper method of containing germs when they cough or sneeze. They are also encouraged to wash their hands carefully and frequently.
